Drone footage (August 2023): This aerial view shows the old western lock and the eastern tunnel lock. Both locks are currently undergoing restoration. This involves replacing damaged mortar, securing loose stones in the masonry, and refurbishing the natural stone elements. The wind-powered mechanisms at both locks are also being addressed. All in all, this is a complete restoration of a truly beautiful spot in our water board area. The white farmhouse in the background is the historic Waarhuis. It was once home to the King and the Lady, who played a crucial role in controlling access to the Aduarderdiep and, by extension, the city of Groningen.
