New Waterworks Zoutkamp
New Waterworks Zoutkamp is the project name for the work being carried out jointly by the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority, the province of Groningen, and the municipality of Het Hogeland in Zoutkamp and the surrounding area. Starting as a water safety project for the water authority, the project has developed into a heritage-inclusive area project. The project stimulates nature, cultural history, recreation & tourism, quality of life, traffic safety, entrepreneurship, and marketing for Zoutkamp, Lauwersmeer, Het Hogeland, and the Wadden region.

The Lauwersmeer dike in Groningen is located between Lauwersoog and the Westpolder. We will be reinforcing this dike in the coming years to ensure adequate protection against flooding in the future and to improve the dike for people and nature. Together with government agencies, market parties, nature organizations, social organizations, entrepreneurs, and residents, we are working on the most sustainable dike in the Netherlands: our dike of tomorrow.
You can achieve more through cooperation
This principle of cooperation is central to the WOW platform. The platform brings together governments and managers of roads, waterways, and water. They facilitate knowledge sharing and inspire people by sharing each other's experiences in order to achieve more together. The nominated water board projects show that coordination with cooperation partners, financiers, and residents of the area is of great importance for successful cooperation. Diverse interests can cause friction. However, through good dialogue with each other, it is possible to achieve a greater and more influential result than the realization of one's own assignment alone.
