Second 'Your Waterscape' bench unveiled at De Waterwolf pumping station
Following the successful launch of the Your Waterscape campaign by unveiling the first bench at the water authority building on Stedumermaar in Groningen, the second bench has now been installed at De Waterwolf pumping station near Electra, behind Oldehove. This campaign by Noorderzijlvest Water Authority highlights the work of the water authority in an accessible and inspiring way for residents in the region.
Benches as eye-catchers
At the heart of the campaign are specially designed benches in the shape of a diving board. Each bench is equipped with a recognisable pair of binoculars, the symbol of the campaign. These represent focus, visibility, and experiencing your waterscape. The bench at De Waterwolf offers a beautiful view of the Reitdiep and invites you to enjoy a moment of peace and discovery.
New cycling and walking routes along waterways and historical sites
New cycling and walking routes of varying distances start from the bench. These lead to Niehove, Ewer, and Houwerzijl, among other places. The routes take you along waterways places that are of great historical importance to water management in the north. Along the way, you can learn more about working with water at information points. The routes and more information about the locations and hydraulic-engineering works can be found on the special campaign website: jouwwaterwereld.noorderzijlvest.nl.
Renovation of the pumping station
The 105-year-old De Waterwolf pumping station has recently been renovated. The leaking roof was replaced, while retaining its historic character. Gutters, dormer windows, and downpipes have been replaced with zinc elements. Joints and brickwork, window frames, gable posts, and bargeboards have been repaired or replaced. The exterior has been repainted with original materials such as pine wood. Two outlets have been replaced with stainless steel pipes. The grounds are also being redesigned, with grass pavers for extra parking space.
