Expansion and renovation for workshop in Onderdendam
On Wednesday, November 27, the Board of Directors to allocate a budget of over €360,000 to develop plans for the expansion and renovation of our workshop in Onderdendam. The workshop serves as the base of operations for the northern part of our region.
Two workshops
In addition to Onderdendam, there is also a workshop in Leek. Both workshops will remain in operation. The water authority to reuse the existing buildings. By continuing to operate from two locations, the movement of equipment to and from the workshops will remain unchanged.
Major maintenance required
The workshop has been located on the outskirts of Onderdendam for many years and serves the northern part of the region . From this workshop, maintenance is flood embankments on watercourses dykes flood embankments . Equipment maintenance is also performed here. In addition, the workshop serves as the base for muskrat control operations. The workshop requires major maintenance. There is a lack of storage space for all equipment, and the working height for machine maintenance is insufficient. The shed no longer meets current occupational safety and health requirements. In addition, the site paving needs to be replaced, more workstations are needed for the growing teams, and the restrooms are modernised.
Implementation
Once the plans have been finalized into a definitive design, construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025. Funding for the project is still required. Implementation of the plans will take approximately one year; in the meantime, operations will continue as much as possible from the existing location. For the other workshop in Leek (which region the southern part of the region ), the water authority will follow water authority process in 2026. The plan is for work on this workshop to take place from mid-2026 through mid-2027.
