Expansion and renovation for workshop in Onderdendam
On Wednesday, November 27, the general board decided to make a loan of more than €360,000 available to develop plans for the expansion and renovation of our workshop in Onderdendam. The workshop is the base for the northern part of our working area.
Two workshops
In addition to Onderdendam, there is also a workshop in Leek. Both workshops will remain in operation. The water board has opted to reuse existing buildings. By continuing to operate from two locations, the transport movements of equipment to and from the workshops will remain as they are now.
Major maintenance required
The workshop has been located on the outskirts of Onderdendam for many years and serves the northern part of Noorderzijlvest's working area. Maintenance of waterways, dikes, and quays is carried out from the workshop. Maintenance of tools is also done here. The workshop is also the base for muskrat control. The workshop is in need of major maintenance. There is a lack of storage space for all the equipment and the working height for machine maintenance is insufficient. The shed no longer meets current health and safety requirements. In addition, the site paving needs to be replaced, more workspaces are needed for the growing teams, and the sanitary facilities are being modernized.
Implementation
After developing the plans into a final design, the work is scheduled to be carried out from the second half of 2025. Implementation credit is still required for the implementation. This will be requested from the general board in the course of 2025. The implementation of the plans will take approximately one year; in the meantime, work will continue as much as possible from the existing location. For the other workshop in Leek (which serves the southern part of the working area), the water board will follow the same route in 2026. The intention is to tackle this workshop from mid-2026 to mid-2027.
