Update: Delfzijl dike passages reopened, but we remain on standby
This morning, Sunday, October 5, at 6:20 a.m., we closed the dike passages in Delfzijl due to high tide at sea. The highest water level was NAP +3.21 meters. This was measured at 11:00 a.m. this morning.
Water level dropped
The water level has now dropped to NAP +2.80 meters and we have reopened the dike passages. However, we will be on standby again from 9 p.m. onwards, as the water level is expected to rise to between NAP +2.90 meters and NAP +3 meters at the end of the evening. Our colleagues are on standby so that they can act quickly if the water level rises.
The dike passages in Delfzijl are always closed when the expected sea level is NAP +3 meters or higher. We carry out the closure together with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa’s Water Authority.
Previous message:
Closure of Delfzijl dike passages on Sunday morning at 6:20 a.m. due to high water levels
On Sunday morning, we will be dealing with high tide at sea. Rijkswaterstaat predicts a water level of NAP +3.50 meters around 10:10 a.m. This means that the dike passages (coupures) in Delfzijl will close.
Start closure
We will start closing the harbor at 6:20 a.m. on Sunday morning. This will result in the temporary closure of the port of Delfzijl. Traffic will be diverted using signs. Once the water has receded sufficiently and the road is clear of water, the roads will be reopened.
Closure at NAP +3m or higher
The dike passages in Delfzijl always close when the expected sea level is NAP + 3 meters or higher. The water level of NAP +3 meters is expected on Sunday morning around 9:20 a.m. The protocol is to close the dike passages three hours in advance. We carry out the closure together with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa’s Water Authority.
