Update: first round of dike monitoring went well

Last night, we carried out a full dike inspection in connection with high tides at sea. As a precaution, we inspected the sea dike from Lauwersoog to Delfzijl. Parts of the quays in Lauwersoog, Eemshaven, and Delfzijl were flooded. In Delfzijl, there was also water on the roads near the harbor. This did not result in any dangerous situations.

Materials that could float away have been cleared away. No damage to the dike has been observed. When it is light, we will carry out a second inspection to check that there is indeed no damage. We will also check whether there are any materials that need to be removed.

The highest water level measured was NAP + 04.02 meters at the De Drie Delfzijlen pumping station. This was measured at around 7:00 this morning. The water is now receding. We will reopen the dike passages at Delfzijl in the course of the day.
