Update - Water board conducts inspections after earthquake

No significant damage was found during the inspections carried out today in response to the earthquake in Wirdum. These took place in an area 10 km around the epicenter. We checked for immediately unsafe situations and situations that could compromise our work.

Last night, at around 4:17 a.m., an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale occurred. The epicenter was located near Wirdum, in the municipality of Eemsdelta. The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority carried out inspections of quays and structures, such as sewer and surface pumping stations and locks, in an area of 10 km around the epicenter. We also inspected the dike near the Eemskanaal on Garreweersterweg between the gas site and the high-voltage site.

We are conducting these inspections because the earthquake measured more than 3.0 on the Richter scale. We are alert to any damage to our dikes, quays, and structures in order to ensure the safety of our residents.
