Update - Water authority conducts inspections after earthquake
No significant damage was found during the inspections carried out today in response to the earthquake in Wirdum. These took place in an area 10 km around the epicenter. We checked for immediately unsafe situations and situations that could compromise our work.
An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale occurred last night at approximately 4:17 a.m. The epicenter was located near Wirdum, in the council . Noorderzijlvest Water Authority inspections of flood embankments structures, such as sewer and surface water pumping stations and locks, within a 10-kilometer radius of the epicenter. We also inspected the dyke the Eemskanaal on Garreweersterweg between the gas facility and the high-voltage facility.
We are conducting these inspections because the earthquake measured more than 3.0 on the Richter scale. We are alert to any damage to our dykes flood embankments to our structures in order to guarantee the safety of our residents.
