Will you join us in making a change? Prevent flooding
Nothing is more annoying than water threatening to flood your home, streets completely under water, or gardens turning into swimming pools. With some very simple adjustments in and around your garden and home, you can ensure that water drains away more effectively. And we all experience less inconvenience.
What can you do yourself?
- Remove tiles, add plants: replace tiles with greenery so that rainwater can sink directly into the soil and is not drained away through the sewer system. This is good for biodiversity.
- Rainwater ponds: construct rainwater ponds so that rainwater is collected and can slowly seep into the ground.
- Gravel strips: lay gravel strips so that rainwater is collected temporarily and can sink into the soil.
- Open joints: use paving stones and tiles with open joints so that rainwater can sink into the ground.
- Open gutters: install open gutters so that rainwater can be drained to an unpaved, lower-lying part of the garden.
- Infiltration crates: use infiltration crates so that the collected rainwater slowly sinks into the ground.
- Water butt: Use a water butt or rainwater fence to collect water for later use.
- Height differences: create height differences in the garden so that rainwater can sink into the ground through lower-lying areas in the garden.
- Keep your gutters clean: keep your gutters clean. With clean gutters, the rainwater drain will not become clogged and the water will not overflow the gutter edge.
