What are we going to do about the Hoornsedijk and the Meerweg?
The work on Hoornsedijk and Meerweg consists of several components.
Improving Stability
On the landward side of the dyke , new toe ditches dyke dug at various locations. Existing ditches that dyke too close to the dyke are being filled in. This will make the base of the dyke and better able to withstand water pressure.
These measures have been carefully planned based on soil and ecological studies.
Beaver Fence - Protection Against Digging Damage
Next, we install beaver mesh in the dyke. This is a sturdy metal mesh that is placed up to four metre into the ground. The mesh prevents beavers from digging tunnels in the dyke thereby compromising its safety.
