What are we going to do on the Hoornsedijk and the Meerweg?
The work on Hoornsedijk and Meerweg consists of several components.
Improve stability
New ditches are dug at various locations on the landward side of the dyke. Existing ditches that are too close to the dyke are being filled in. This will make the dyke foundation more stable and better able to withstand water pressure.
These measures have been carefully prepared, including with soil and ecological studies.
Beaver mesh - Protection against digging damage
Then, we install beaver mesh in the dyke. This is sturdy metal mesh that is placed up to four metres into the ground. The mesh prevents beavers from digging tunnels in the dyke that compromise its safety.
