We purify what you flush away—and now even better
Attention residents of the northern Netherlands! On Wednesday, October 15, we reached an important milestone: part of the Garmerwolde purification process has been renovated and put into use. And that's good news for you. Want to know why? Read on to find out.
Reliable and purified water for your village
The treatment plant in Garmerwolde consists of three treatment lines:
- Last year, Zuiveringsstraat 2 was renovated.
- Zuiveringsstraat 1 has now been successfully completed
- Next year, we will tackle Zuiveringsstraat 3.

The more treatment lines are renewed, the better the water is cleaned for you and your neighbors. Whether you live in Garmerwolde, Ten Boer, Thesinge, Zevenhuizen, Woltersum, Ten Post, Stedum, Winneweer, Loppersum, Weerden, Westeremden, Garsthuizen, Leermens, Ten Boer, Garmerwolde, or Lewenborg: the water you use is purified here.
Less pollution, more reuse – your water gets a second life
Thanks to our upgraded purification lines, we are better able to remove harmful substances from the water, use less energy, and recover valuable substances. This means cleaner water in the shower, less impact on the environment, and a step toward a circular water chain.
Well-purified water is important for your health, for the nature in your environment, and for the future of the Northern Netherlands.

You have an impact on the quality of our water
What you flush down the drain eventually ends up at our treatment plant. Medication residues, cleaning products, or grease—we have to remove everything that ends up in the sewer. Thanks to the efforts of our teams and external partners, two treatment lines are operating safely and efficiently, and now better than ever. But truly clean water starts with conscious use.
