Water board unhappy with decision on wind farm route
Minister Hermans of Climate and Green Growth is sticking to her decision to route the cables from wind farms north of Schiermonnikoog under Schiermonnikoog, through the Wadden Sea to Kloosterburen. The water board is unhappy with this decision.
Impact
From the sea and under the island, the cables must come ashore and then travel 37 kilometers through the Groningen countryside to Eemshaven. Like other organizations, Noorderzijlvest would have preferred the minister to choose a route that lies further to the east and has less impact on nature and agriculture.
We must work together
"Now that the minister is continuing with her plans, we want to be closely involved in the next phases of the project and we need to work together. There is a vulnerable freshwater bubble in the soil. In order to maintain high-quality agriculture for as long as possible, we need to be very careful with it. If everything goes ahead, we need to thoroughly investigate how the cable route can be constructed without affecting the freshwater bubble," says executive board member Annette van Velde. "In addition, the water board has a major task in the area of water safety. Both the construction of a cable route and the reinforcement of the dike are enormous projects. In this area, it is not possible to coordinate them. Or rather, we must tackle this together and ensure that the impact on the environment is as minimal as possible. For the residents. For agriculture and for nature. We must not miss this opportunity!"
