Another new water expedition!
Experience the value of water on a journey of discovery through the purification of the future. On Wednesday evening, October 15, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is organizing its third water expedition, a fascinating journey of discovery through the purification of the future. This time, we look forward to welcoming you in Winsum. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., a visual tour will begin, allowing you to literally step into the world of water.
Why a water expedition?
Every day, we use millions of liters of water. But where does it actually go when we flush the toilet or brush our teeth? That water eventually returns to our surface water, and cleaning it is no easy task. The sewage treatment plant in Winsum is one of the places where this important work takes place. To mark the occasion, the third exhibition for residents and local residents is starting there. Come along and experience how essential sufficient and clean water is!
Water is a scarce commodity: only 0.25% of all water on earth is available as fresh water for daily use. Every day, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority works from 13 locations to provide clean, healthy, and purified water to around 500,000 residents in the northern Netherlands. However, harmful substances still end up in our water, posing risks to the environment and public health. That is why it is essential to use water consciously. Together with municipalities, drinking water companies, and knowledge partners, we are looking for smart and sustainable solutions. Part of the solution lies with all of us, in our behavior and our choices. What we don't flush down the sewer, we don't have to remove from it.
The program
We start with a visual tour that shows the value of water. Discover exactly what happens at the treatment plant, how wastewater is removed, and what raw materials are extracted from wastewater. And what does the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority do with the medicine residues that are removed from the wastewater? Perhaps you will have questions during the water exhibition, or you would like to learn more about this fascinating subject.
Afterwards, employees of the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority will be on hand to talk to you. Did you know, for example, that wastewater is often seen as pollution, but also contains valuable substances that can be reused? And that water knows no boundaries? Cooperation is crucial for an efficient water chain. Learn about the many partners involved and find out what the future of water looks like.
