Which fish hotel deserves five stars? Cast your vote!
At the start of this school year, the water authority challenged more than 200 second-year Technasium students: design a fish hotel and make the hotel “visible” above water as well. Creating these artificial shelters and spawning grounds for fish and small aquatic creatures is one of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) measures devised in 2020 in collaboration with representatives of local residents and users of the lake.
Designing a Fish Hotel
For an entire trimester, students from RSG De Borgen, the Praedinius Gymnasium, and the Stadslyceum worked on their designs. The 10 best designs will be on display at the Wall House from March 8 to 10. Visitors can vote for their favorite fish hotel. Online voting is also available. A panel of experts will also favourite a favourite . The two winning designs will, as far as feasible, be actually implemented.

Scale models at the Wall House
The designs have been developed into scale models. These are on display in the architecturally stunning Wall House, located directly on Lake Paterswoldsemeer.

Fish hotels as a measure under the Water Framework Directive
The construction of fish hotels is one of the measures the water authority to improve the lake’s (ecological) water quality in accordance with the Water Framework Directive (WFD). Currently, the lake lacks sufficient hiding places and spawning grounds for fish and small aquatic organisms. The water authority nature-friendly shorelines. Young People and Water
