You’re walking through the workshop in Onderdendam. All around you are tractors, cranes, tow trucks, vehicles, and other large equipment. A coworker is working on a machine that needs maintenance. A little further on, a machine is being prepared for outdoor work. You see what’s happening today, but as an Equipment Asset Manager, you’re mainly looking ahead. Which machines and vehicles do we need now and in a few years? Which ones need to be replaced? Can we manage maintenance more effici organise? And which new technologies are a good fit for our work? You bring all these questions together and ensure we have control over our equipment. You know what we have, what condition it’s in, and what will be needed in the coming years. You develop plans for maintenance, replacement, and investments. But you won’t just be working in the office. You’ll talk to site supervisors and machine operators to find out what they need on the job. You’ll consult with suppliers, maintenance companies, and leasing firms, and discuss your plans with colleagues and managers.

The great thing is that you start to see the difference more and more. Where things used to be done largely on an ad hoc basis, there’s now a growing sense of clarity. What are you going to do?

As an Equipment Asset Manager, you are responsible for managing and developing our equipment and vehicle fleet. This includes everything that drives or runs on its own power, such as tractors, cranes, tow trucks, mowing boats, and cars. You ensure that we have a clear understanding of the condition, costs, deployment, and service life of our equipment. Based on this information, you draw up plans for maintenance, replacement, and investments.

You’ll coordinate with colleagues who work with the equipment, team managers, Purchasing, suppliers, and maintenance companies. You’ll translate practical needs into an efficient and future-proof approach.

 Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and updating the multi-year plan for maintenance, replacement, and investments.
  • Developing proposals for the purchase, replacement, and sustainability improvements of equipment and vehicles.
  • Coordinate with field staff and team managers regarding equipment needs, deployment, and scheduling.
  • Managing the vehicle fleet and the issuance of (leased) vehicles, including the related administrative tasks.
  • Developing requirements and specifications for new equipment and vehicles and coordinating with the Procurement department, taking our procurement policy into account.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, maintenance companies, and leasing companies regarding maintenance, delivery, and contracts.
  • Contribute to the bidding process and contract management.
  • Monitoring costs, maintenance, and replacement schedules, and focusing on efficiency, simplicity, and cost savings.
  • Identifying developments in technology, laws, and regulations, and applying them to the management of our equipment.
  • Developing proposals for making the rolling stock and vehicle fleet more sustainable and electrified.

 You’ll work both indoors and outdoors. You’ll gather information from the field, coordinate with various stakeholders, and translate this into concrete plans and decisions regarding our equipment and vehicle fleet.

About the Maintenance and Facilities Team

You will be working on the Maintenance and Facilities team. Within this team, various colleagues collaborate on the maintenance and management of our assets and facilities. As an Equipment and Vehicle Asset Manager, you will work closely with colleagues who work outdoors, with colleagues responsible for maintenance, and with vehicle drivers. You will ensure the connexion between what is needed today and what we will need in the future.

The consequences of these developments, as well as climate change, are affecting the (bin)water system.   • Do you have an MBO+ or HBO level of work and thinking, preferably in a technical or logistics field;
  • Do you have experience in equipment management, fleet management, asset management, or contract management;
  • Are you interested in machines, technology, and maintenance;
  • Do you enjoy learning more about the work of a water authority?

Even if you come from a different background, this position might be a good fit for you. For example, if you work or have worked at a garage, a machinery company, a car dealership, a transportation company, a council , or a contracting company. You don’t have to know everything yet. We think it’s especially important that you have technical insight, can work independently, and are self-assured.

Here's what we offer you

  • A job in the social services field.
  • Initially, a fixed-term contract (1 year), with the possibility of a permanent contract.
  • A gross monthly salary of up to €5,199 (scale 9) for full-time employment.
  • In addition to your gross salary, you will receive 21% as an IKB (individual choice budget); you can have this paid out or use it in another way, such as to purchase additional time off.
