Decisions on water storage deployment
What happens when there is a threat of high water?
If the water threatens to rise too high, the water board will take emergency measures. The water board will then follow a special plan. This plan sets out what needs to be done, who is responsible for what, and how communication will take place. This enables the water board to respond quickly and effectively.
How are decisions made about the use of water storage?
The water board monitors current and expected water levels. If the water threatens to rise too high, the water board follows a fixed step-by-step plan. This is called the deployment protocol. This deployment protocol will be in place once the additional water storage facility is completed. It helps to quickly decide when an area should be temporarily flooded to prevent flooding. The protocol states:
- When the area is deployed
- Who does what
- How we collaborate and communicate
- How the water is safely drained away again
The protocol ensures that everyone knows what to do in the event of heavy rain or high water. This keeps the area safe.
