Coalition Agreement 2023–2027
The board emphasises the value of water as an important and indispensable element in our region, and as a driver of existing and new spatial developments. On behalf of the coalition, the board is committed to making the value of water tangible and visible in the work of the water authority.
In addition to the investments already planned in the current water-management programme, the board emphasises continuing robust work on water, with customised solutions and in collaboration with each other. A number of themes will receive extra attention in the coming years:
- Water and soil are key factors in spatial development
- The water system is becoming more natural; a resilient natural environment is better able to absorb the effects of climate change than technical solutions only
- Research into the development of a broad safe coastal zone, including dealing with salinisation in this area
- Improving water quality while achieving greater biodiversity
- Better water retention for periods of drought
- Being able to continue draining excess water as sea levels continue to rise and the ground continues to sink
- Research into adapting treatment processes to comply with new regulations and enable the extensive removal of medicines residues and microplastics
- Research into the recovery of raw materials
- More agenda-setting and steering role for the water authority to contribute, together with other authorities, to added value for the area
- Collaborate more with the surrounding area
- Greater water awareness specifically in built-up (urban) areas and aimed at young people
- Expenses will rise in the coming years as a result of autonomous developments (interest rates and inflation) and the agreed level of ambition set out in the Water-Management Programme. Water rates will continue to rise steadily in the coming years.
- Focus on external sources of financing to mitigate the burden on residents and businesses
