Water Management Program 2022-2027

The water management program was adopted by the general board in November 2021. Residents and collaborating partners were involved in the creation of this water management program through livestreams and (digital) meetings. A water management program was previously also known as a water management plan. We use the legal term "water management program."

We face significant challenges in a rapidly changing climate: we must remain 'climate-ready'. We are working on a more natural water system. Technology sometimes needs to lend a helping hand. The route to a sustainably designed area is becoming clearer. The organization is focusing more on the environment and on cooperation in the region. We present all developments and challenges via interactive maps.

Our work is on the map

This map shows all developments for the next six years. Explanatory icons clarify which task is relevant to which part of our area. The map is made up of various layers. You can zoom in on the water system, the soil, or land use. 

Our six sub-areas

Our working area has specific characteristics: different issues play a role in the northern coastal area than on the high sandy soils of Drenthe. We work with six sub-areas. Within these, we take an integrated approach to the issues that arise there. 

Our challenges at a glance

A more rapid rise in sea levels and continued subsidence due to natural gas extraction. Extreme droughts and excessive rainfall alternate. This places heavy demands on the water system. We need to identify and weigh up the various interests involved.
