The Land Registry Policy and the Bank Protection Policy of the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority 2022 can be found on our website. The water authority has published the Land Registry Policy and the Bank Protection Policy on overheid.nl.
What is the Land Registry Policy?
The water board ensures safe living with water, sufficient, clean, and healthy water. To achieve this, we set requirements for water management structures. These include waterways, dikes, quays, and pumping stations in our working area. In addition, the water authority designates who is responsible for maintenance. We record all this information in our registers. A register is a record of (water management) works. It is a map with accompanying information. Registers provide an overview of the tasks and responsibilities of the water authority and other parties for the management and maintenance of these works. The water authority is creating new registers because the current ones are outdated. The requirements for registers are also changing with the upcoming introduction of the Environment Act. The Register Policy sets out how we create and amend registers and what data we include in our registers. Based on this, new registers have now been established: the Water Management Works Register and the Maintenance Register.
What is the policy on bank protection?
Our working area includes kilometers of revetments, quays, and sheet piling. It is often unclear who is responsible for maintaining these bank protection structures: is it the water board or the adjacent landowner? This lack of clarity leads to overdue maintenance and can create unsafe situations. We want to change this together with the parties involved. That is why we have set out new principles for the maintenance obligation of quays, revetments, and banks on paper. We have incorporated these into our policy.
