The Floating Island is on its way to Lauwersoog

This week and last week, a striking vessel has been sailing through Northwest Groningen. A green floating island with three mirror pedestals could already been seen in Zoutkamp, near De Waterwolf pumping station, in the Diepenring area of Groningen, and in the Reitdiep harbour. This week, the floating island will continue on to Gaarkeuken and return to Zoutkamp via the Reitdiep. On Saturday afternoon, the island will cross lake Lauwersmeer to take centre stage in the closing performance around 17:30.

Arrival at the island near pumping station Waterwolf pumping station
The green floating island made stops at various locations, including De Waterwolf pumping station. On Saturday 27 June, it will arrive in Lauwersoog around 17:30 for the closing inal performance of Our Waterscape.

 Be prepared for the heat

It will remain warm in the coming days and this weekend as well. Wear light, breathable clothing and stay hydrated. Be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen. Did you forget? We’ll make sure you can still apply some. We’re doing our best to provide plenty of shade. And remember: the event is right behind the Wadden Sea coast. It’s always a few degrees cooler there, with a nice breeze! Our little beach is a great place to be on a hot afternoon like this.

Free drinks, water, ice cream, and poffertjes!

We’ll provide plenty of water and other beverages, which are available free of charge. Ice cream, poffertjes, and hot and cold drinks are available free of charge—while supplies last. It's our treat! Of course, there will be plenty of water available all afternoon. Please note: we do not serve alcoholic beverages.

The route from Zoutkamp to Lauwersoog is clear

The route for motorists along the N388 and the N361 junction from Zoutkamp will be open on Saturday 27 June. The current road closure at this junction has been lifted temporarily for this occasion.
Please note: the section of road between Leens and Ulrum remains closed. So, if you’re coming from the surrounding area, the route via Zoutkamp is the fastest!

Follow the P signs

As you approach Lauwersoog, follow the P signs for the “Our Waterscape” event. From the designated parking areas, a regular shuttle service will take you to our beach, which is open for one day only.

There are routes available if you'd like to cycle to us from the surrounding area.
