What is a pasture depot?

A meadow depot is a depot for dredged material on a piece of land, such as a meadow. We excavate about 20 to 30 cm of the top layer of the plot. We use this soil to build quays. With the quays, we create a kind of basin where we deposit the dredged material to dry.

Do you have land available for a pasture depot?

The waterways to be dredged where we are looking for locations for pasture depots are:

  • Hunzingo Canal
  • Hornstervaart
  • Mill Row Canal

Or would you like more information? Please contact us.

The water board is looking for suitable locations for a meadow depot.

The water board is currently actively seeking landowners in the vicinity of the waterways to be dredged who are willing to make their land available for the establishment of a meadow dredging depot. We are looking for approximately 20 hectares of available land in the region.

  • Since you own one or more plots of land near the waterways to be dredged, we would like to ask you if you would be willing to make one or more plots available for use as a pasture depot.

Financial compensation and reimbursements

Plots that are lower in elevation or in need of redevelopment are ideal for use as pasture storage. Once the dredged material has dried, the soil can be used to raise the elevation of the plot and/or optimize it.

  • Landowners who make their land available for a pasture depot are eligible for attractive financial compensation and reimbursements and are relieved of any worries until the land is returned.

How does the dredged material end up in the meadow depot?

We pump the dredged material through a pipe using a dredger; or we pump dredged material through a pipe. We then thin the dredged material with water. This prevents the pipe from becoming clogged. That water also has to be removed. We place boxes with holes in the quays around the meadow depot. We call these boxes dump boxes. The water flows out of the meadow depot in a controlled manner through these boxes.

Can I use the soil again once the dredged material has dried?

You can spread the dry dredged material over the land. Before dredging, we conduct a waterbed investigation. In this investigation, we check whether the dredged material is clean enough to be spread on the ground. If the waterbed investigation shows that the dredged material is not clean enough, we transport it to a processing plant.

How long will you be using my land?

We will use your land for two to three years. It takes a while for the dredged material to dry. The dredged material dries as the water evaporates. The soil also absorbs water, which then drains away via drainage boxes.

Will I receive compensation for the use of my land?

Yes, you will receive compensation. We base the amount of compensation on the LTO/Platform Leg- en ligrechten (LTO/Platform Standing and Lying Rights). We also take care of all the necessary permits. We set out the agreements and compensation in a contract.

Who cleans up the pasture depot?

In an agreement, we set out what has been agreed prior to the work. If the owner of the plot chooses to clear the depot themselves, an amount will be agreed for this.
