What is a pasture depot?

A pasture depot is a depot for dredge spoil on a piece of land, such as a pasture. We excavate about 20 to 30 cm of the top layer of the plot. We use this soil to build embankments. With the embankments, we create a kind of tub where we put the dredge spoil to dry.

Do you have land available for a pasture depot?

The watercourses to be dredged where we are looking for locations for pasture depots are:

  • Hunzingo canal
  • Hoornstervaart
  • Molgenrijgster creek

Or would you like more information? Please contact us.

The water authority is looking for suitable locations for a pasture depot.

The water authority is actively looking for landowners in the vicinity of the watercourses to be dredged who are willing to make their land available for setting up a pasture dredging depot. We are looking for approximately 20 hectares of available land in the region.

  • As you own one or more plots of land near the watercourses to be dredged, we would like to ask if you would be willing to make one or more plots available for use as a pasture depot.

Financial compensation and reimbursements

Plots that are lower in elevation or in need of redevelopment are ideal for use as pasture storage. Once the dredge spoil has dried, the soil can be used to raise the elevation of the plot and/or optimise it.

  • Landowners who make their land available for a pasture depot are eligible for attractive financial compensation and reimbursements and are relieved of any worries until the land is returned.

How does the dredge spoil end up in the pasture depot?

We pump the dredge spoil through a pipe with a dredger; or we pump dredge spoil through a pipe. We then dilute the dredge spoil with water. This prevents the pipe from becoming blocked. That water also has to be removed. We place formwork with holes in the embankments around the pasture depot. The water flows out of the pasture depot through the formwork in a controlled manner.

Can I use the soil again once the dredge spoil have dried?

You can spread the dry dredge spoil over the land. Before dredging, we conduct a waterbed survey. In this survey, we check whether the dredge spoil is clean enough to be spread on the ground. If the waterbed investigation shows that the dredge spoil are not clean enough, we transport it to a processing plant.

How long will you be using my land?

We will use your land for two to three years. It takes a while for the dredge spoil to dry. The dredge spoil dry as the water evaporates. The soil also absorbs water, which then drains away via the formwork.

Will I receive compensation for the use of my land?

Yes, you will receive compensation. We base the amount of compensation on the LTO/Platform Leg- en ligrechten (LTO/Platform Rights of Support and Accommodation). We also take care of all the necessary permits. We set out the agreements and compensation in a contract.

Who cleans up the pasture depot?

In an agreement, we set out what has been agreed prior to the work. If the owner of the plot chooses to clear the depot themselves, an amount will be agreed for this.
