Waterwolf extends its 100th anniversary celebrations!
How about a unique walk along the embankment of the De Waterwolf pumping station near Oldehove to Zoutkamp? Or following in the footsteps of Johan Dijkstra by drawing the pumping station? These and other special activities are being organized by the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority in July and August in and around the De Waterwolf pumping station to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
Walk along the embankment
The activities focus on the pumping station, water, and landscape. On July 10, for example, you can take part in a walk along the embankment from the pumping station to Zoutkamp. This walk is led by an experienced guide. A shuttle bus will take participants back to the pumping station. There are several possible start times.
Drawing and nature photography workshops
On July 24, creativity takes center stage. In the morning, participants can take part in a nature photography workshop. The photographic tour through nature from the pumping station is led by a professional photographer. With an eye for the unique surroundings, participants will learn the tricks of the trade. In the afternoon, there are two opportunities to register for a drawing workshop. Capture the pumping station from the birdwatching hut on the Rietdiep, just as Johan Dijkstra immortalized the pumping station from that spot in the past. No drawing experience is required for this workshop.
The pumps are on
Even after a hundred years, the pumping station is still in use throughout the season. On August 14, visitors can see and hear at various times what preparations the managers are making to start up the pumping station. And how many decibels the pumps produce when the pumping station is running at full speed. Various start times are possible.
Free participation
Participation in all activities is free of charge. However, each participant must register in advance, as group sizes are limited. The walk, drawing workshop, and pumping station tour have multiple start times. The nature photography workshop is limited to one start time. Registration is now open on the Year of the Waterwolf page.
Save the Date – August 28
For the general public, the centenary celebrations will end in style on August 28. During the day, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority will organize a large Open Day. Young and old alike can learn more about topics such as mobile water level management, fish migration, and the use of drones through experiments, guided tours, machines, and apps. Especially for children, there will be a creative drawing, craft, and building corner, as well as a bouncy castle. The day will conclude in the evening with a grand performance by the Noordpoolorkest in collaboration with Pé Daalemmer & Rooie Rinus and Marlène Bakker.
