Restoring stream valleys is necessary for nature conservation and a healthy water system. Watercourses are becoming shallower, narrower, and meandering again.

In the Kop van Drenthe region, we are working on a future-proof water system that prevents problems such as drought and flooding as much as possible. Our goals are:

  • Make the water system more natural.
  • Improve the area's water-retention capacity in wet and dry periods.
  • Strengthen biodiversity by ensuring favourable conditions for more plant and animal species.
  • Connect and strengthen green (nature) and blue (water) zones.
  • Make the area resistant to extreme weather conditions.
  • Make agriculture future-proof.
