Every day, we contribute to waterproofing the future. We work to provide clean, healthy, and treated water, and ensure sufficient water in every season. We do this for the people in our area. This page provides an overview of all the activities and projects currently underway.

  • Dyke reinforcement Lauwersmeer dyke-Vierhuizergat

    Project website: The Lauwersmeer dyke in Groningen is located between Lauwersoog and the Westpolder. This dyke no longer meets dyke safety requirements. That is why the dyke needs to be reinforced. We will start work on the dyke in 2023.

  • Area-specific supervision ‘De Zeven Blokken’ Smilde

    A study of the use of crop-protection products in surface water. The project was launched in 2018 in the agricultural area known as 'De Zeven Blokken' near Smilde.

  • Area development Zuidelijk Westerkwartier

    In the Zuidelijk Westerkwartier, the water authority is taking measures. At the same time, the Groningen provincial executive is setting up the National Nature Network.

  • Water Framework Directive (WFD) measures in Drenthe

    Drenthe Water Framework Directive. The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is working on making weirs accessible for fish and constructing 3 kilometres of nature-friendly banks.

  • Kop van Drenthe

    In the Kop van Drenthe region, we are working on a water system that adapts to climate change, provides sufficient water, and prevents flooding as much as possible.

  • Land use Veenhuizen

    In May 2016, a Veenhuizen Land Use Planning Committee was appointed to facilitate land exchanges and mediate in the transfer of infrastructure and structures.

  • Measures Runsloot and Stroetenloop

    We are going to improve the Runsloot and Stroetenloop. These watercourses are part of the Eelderdiep stream system. The aim is to reduce water shortages and desiccation, and to ensure better water quality and greater biodiversity.

  • Growing dyke: protecting our coastline

    We are investigating whether we can gradually reinforce the sea dyke with thin layers of silt. The Growing Dyke is largely financed by STOWA, the High Water Levels Protection Programme, and the Interreg project BONSAI.

  • New Waterworks Zoutkamp

    The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is increasing the capacity of the H.D. Louwes pumping station and strengthening the regional flood defences in Zoutkamp. This is necessary to guarantee water safety in the long term.
